Gobs

GobsAnother holiday favorite in my family but this time came from my aunt is Gobs. Of course, Gobs is also known in many areas as Whoopie Pies but we always called them Gobs so sticking with our naming. Our traditional Gob was your two chocolate cookies ends with a white vanilla filling but I decided to take it a little bit farther. Instead of just one filling flavor I decided to up it to three different filling flavors: Vanilla, Chocolate and Peanut Butter (in the picture it goes Peanut Butter at the top, Chocolate in the middle and Vanilla at the bottom). With the three flavors, I would say my favorite is the Peanut Butter but all are a wonderful treat!

Every logo I try to do something a little different so I don’t have very similar looking logos, variety is important when it comes to graphic design. For Gobs, the logo layout was that of a page that consist of a page border and main content. The page border was given a simple design with a clear inner side on the left and edge side on the right. Then for the main content, the title “Gobs” was given a handwritten font and paired with a silhouette symbol of a Gob.

Nut Roll

Nut RollA Hungarian traditional dessert that has been a regular in our family during the Christmas Season for many decades is Nut Roll. I remember having it when I was little when Grandma Ditchcreek made it, the tradition continued with my mom making it and now it is time for me to continue it on. The Hungarian version has a minced walnut filling with a nice soft bread and flaky crust that is glazed with egg yolk for a nice yellow shine with a sprinkle of sugar. Nowadays, Nut Roll is a rarity to find and eat any more but it still lives so if you ever find it or make the effort to make it, it is a worthwhile dessert to enjoy and even start to have as a family tradition for the holidays.

Nut Roll was a logo I decided to completely make from scratch. What I mean by that is all text was designed instead of using a font for the lettering. I created a bold lettering with a unique kind of serif font style. Additionally, I added a Nut Roll symbol that replaced the “o” in “Roll” so that the logo had a visual representation of the dessert.

Dutch Apple Pie

Dutch Apple PieA timeless classic dessert of apple pie is something to always look forward to and enjoy with family. So, I decided to test myself by making a completely homemade Dutch Apple Pie for family, they prefer crumb topping over pastry top. Started with making a homemade pie crust which I have gotten somewhat use to since I have made a homemade crust two times before this. Then, I created the apple pie filling and crumb topping to finish it off so next to baking it went. The deliciousness of a slice of homemade Dutch Apple Pie is something everyone should try to enjoy be it making the effort to do it themselves or finding someone who is kind of enough to offer a slice.

Dutch Apple Pie was a title I felt was best divided in a logo with the main focus being “Apple Pie”. The other part of “Dutch” is more of a descriptive word to define what type of Apple Pie so still important but did not have to have as big of a presence in the logo. So with the focus on “Apple Pie”, the words were given a serif font while being centered and given a simple line border. The “I” in “Pie” was given an apple silhouette for the dot to give a little uniqueness to the lettering. Finally, “Dutch” was added in the border area with a lowercase handwritten look to give a little difference in lettering compared to “Apple Pie”.

Frosted Pumpkin Cookies

Frosted Pumpkin CookiesAh Fall, the time of the year it gets colder and you see Pumpkin this and that everywhere. Pumpkin items are tasty but can get repetitive and food created might not have the right taste wanted. Our traditional Pumpkin items fixed at home are the common desserts in Pumpkin Pie and Pumpkin Bars, both delicious but sometimes you want something a little different. So I aimed for a Pumpkin Cookie dessert and found the perfect one in Frosted Pumpkin Cookies. The cookie is more of a soft cake like cookie with chopped Pecans in it to give it a little extra while topped with a Caramel Frosting. It is a great moist cookie with a nice sweet frosting that when all put together gives a scrumptious pop in your mouth cookie so never hurts to eat a few at a time.

Frosted Pumpkin Cookies was a title where I wanted to do something a little different with the logo. So my logo idea was to use the shape of a Pumpkin but with icing like how the cookie is. First, I started with a silhouette of a Pumpkin then cut it in half. With the top half, I shaped it to look more like frosting but still to a degree using the Pumpkin proportions. Next since the top half is frosting, the text “Frosted” went in that portion while “Pumpkin Cookies” went in the bottom portion since that represented the cookie part.

Bean Casserole

Bean CasseroleSides to go with a meal are always important be it fruit, vegetable, rice or other types. So it was time to find something new that would be a delicious side but not similar to anything I already fix. Through searching, the new recipe that I found and was 100% delicious was a Bean Casserole. It is similar to a side of Baked Beans but more homemade so maybe a little bit healthier. The Bean Casserole consists of three beans: Black Beans, Red Kidney Beans and Pork & Beans while also having a little meat in Bacon and Ground Beef. The ratio of meat to bean is 1/2 lb of meat to 3 lbs of beans so it is really a bean side with a small hint of meat. To complete the side there is some Onion and a sauce you make up then to the oven it goes for baking. All the ingredients combine to make a savory bean side dish to go with any meal so definitely worth a try.

Bean Casserole is a simple title to work with so the focus was more of a good graphic to go with it. So the answer I came up with was a ingredient motif that incorporates a few ingredients from the recipe. The main important ingredient is the beans so that became the central focus for the graphic with a silhouette of a Bean. The other ingredients that were incorporate were Bacon, Onion and sauce. I left out Ground Beef since as a silhouette there was a chance it wouldn’t be recognized since it doesn’t have a distinguishing shape. So the graphic became a half oval with the Bean in the center with splashes of a liquid representing the sauce then a strip of Bacon and a whole Onion in the corner.
